Re: Virginia 5.9 Earthquake |
that's no earth quake, it's called a tailgate party in California!
I have heard that the east coast earthquake occurred on a previously unknown fault line. Scientists have named it
"The George W.Bush's Fault"

hahahah

UPDATE: The USGS says the east coast earthquake was caused by an unknown fault line running under D.C. and through Virginia. It is now being called Obama's Fault, though Obama will say it's really Bush's Fault. Other theories are that was the Founding Fathers rolling over in their graves or that what we all believed to be an earthquake was actually the effects of a 14.6 trillion dollar check bouncing in Washington

Re: Virginia 5.9 Earthquake |
oh yeah, we shook! I thought maybe I was having some kind of hysterical episode, and kept thinking, no, the building can't really be shaking, maybe I'm having a hot flash, the building can't actually be SWAYING BACK AND FORTH. I looked out in the hall and saw the potted plants were waving in the BREEZE and I thought, there's not supposed to be any breeze up here. I work on the 19th floor of a building in center city Philadelphia. We more or less evacuated ourselves and everyone was fairly shaken for a few minutes - more so before we realized what it actually was. When we didn't know what was going on but the building was shaking, that was a little nerve wracking.
Now tomorrow my knees will hurt, 'cus we walked down 19 floors ...

Re: Virginia 5.9 Earthquake |
Holy heck! I just saw the news and then all this. Scary and weird. I mean, not really, logically speaking, if you're in the US where buildings are well built ... but REALLY weird. There was another, much smaller earthquake last year in D.C. just before we moved overseas; we were sleeping on the floor on our mattress, with most of the house packed away, and thought, "an earthquake? HERE?!? How?" This one, though ... evacuating in Philly? Ohmigosh.
We're overdue for a big one here, and it'll be Haiti on steroids. The embassy has meetings about it, but other than saying things like, "register your house on the our GPS Wikemapia system! know your gathering place!" they can't do jack. So the conversation here goes, "duck and cover or triangle of life?"
But there's nothing to do about it, really. Whatever fate decrees, and so on ... had a friend from here, arguably not the least risky place on the planet to live, and he was just killed in D.C. last week while riding in an airport shuttle. The most "ordinary," seemingly "safe" place to be. After a lifetime in the third world. There's no bubble of protection, wherever you are.
Now THAT'S a cheerful start to the day! (For me. It's nighttime for you folks.) I can make a dumb and obvious comment about turning on the earthquake space. But ... nah.
Be thankful, y'all, for good engineering and building construction. Really.

Re: Virginia 5.9 Earthquake |
That's too funny, The GWB fault indeed.
Just another day on the left coast, you learn to ride the waves, unfortunately the next wave in California may just be the 50 year storm with all the + 7.0 activity around the Pacific rim the last two years, and Haiti.
